About Madurai Medical College, Madurai
Government Madurai Medical College is a state-run medical institution in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. It was inaugurated on 2 August 1954 by Chief Minister K. Kamaraj and Union Health Minister Rajkumari Amrit Kaur. The college initially affiliated with the University of Madras, later with Madurai Kamaraj University, and now comes under The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University. Its teaching hospital was established in 1842 and became a teaching hospital in 1954. Academic training includes MBBS and postgraduate medical education, with clinical exposure through hospital departments and specialist services. The institution contributes to medical teaching, patient care and clinical learning for students serving Madurai and the surrounding districts.
